Entry: QuickSilver - Best 2004 Mac OS X application so far? Tuesday, February 24, 2004

Even though it's still a beta-version this application is insanely great!!!!! It's by far the most exciting new release of 2004 to this date.

It is essentially just another one of those type-the-first-few-letters-to-launch affairs, the preferences allow you to choose what items to search. You can tab to the second field to choose an action. It's extremely quick, customisable, powerful and unobtrusive. The app. quickly scans the following folders at start-up: Applications, System, Addressbook, Internet Bookmarks, Recent Items, Scripts etc. You can add more folders yourself, e.g.the Documents folder. You'll have instant access to all your files and applications with a single keystroke. QuickSilver even offers a built-in enhancement to the copy/paste-feature in OS X, so that you'll be able to copy/paste an infinite number of items instead of only just one. As an extra bonus you can download some great scripts for free from the developers site. There are three ways in which you can view the "search-field"...I've posted two of them here:

In this view you only see it in the menu-bar...very unobtrusive

Althought it really doesn't matter, it also has the coolest "fast-fade-away"-feature when you've launched an app. or file....just to add the last little spice to this great program. The developer could easily charge 20 $ or more for this app.....but he didn't! It's free!
