What are the odds of you being attacked by a shark

Well, it does look a little bit frightning, doesn't it. But what are the odds of you actually ending up in the belly of this fella'? Not very good! In fact you have a greater chance of being killed by a coconut falling on your head. In 2002, there were 60 confirmed "unprovoked" shark attacks in the world, resulting in 3 deaths! That means that you are 15 times more likely to be killed by falling coconuts than by a shark. Isn't three people, three too many and do we really need sharks anyway? Well, shark attacks are more a result of human patterns rather than shark patterns. Besides, sharks play an important role in the world's oceans. As top predators, sharks keep other species from overpopulating. Sharks also have a high resistance to many diseases and have value in biological research. Researchers are, for example, looking at sharks to find a cure for cancer, among other things.
Here's a few tips to avoid encounters with sharks:

Avoid splashing.
Don't go into the water while bleeding.
Don't wear shiny jewelry while swimming in the ocean.
Swim with other people.
Avoid murky waters where sharks seek out smaller fish for prey.
Don't swim at dusk, when sharks are more likely to be feeding.
Avoid looking like a tasty sealion :-)

Daveman, have you considered being hit by a shark falling off an airplane?

If I am attacked by a shark and live, I'm gunna be rich selling my story to the mass news media! I live in Arkansas in the hills. A shark comes up here, its spoken for! *** envisions shark head mounted next to deer and fish mounts ***
